Africa Café is a restaurant targeted at tourists which serves traditional meals from around Africa. Meals are brought to the tables in bowls and a "communal feast" ensues where diners can east as much as they like of their favorite meals. If you need more of anything the staff will happily oblige.
The restaurant has been wonderfully decorated with many bright murals and pictures on the walls. Everything down to the table settings and the staff are decorated in order to make the experience vibrant. At one stage during the evening several staff members will grab the drums and start moving around the restaurant singing.
The food itself is unusual but fairly good and well presented. On the menu you can expect to find:
- Malawi mbatata balls (sweet potato and cheese rolled in sesame seeds)
- West Coast mussels served in a Cape Malay coconut sauce
- Tunisian briouats (potatoes and garlic in phyllo pastry)
- Ethiopian sik sik wat (lean, succulent lamb in a mild berbere and paprika sauce)
- Moroccan zeilook (aubergine, dhania, and garlic dip)
- Tanzanian mango chicken (strips of chicken filet, a little tough, in a tangy sauce)
- South African ithanga (pumpkin and cinnamon fritters)
Staff can occasionally be surly, but in general this is a good experience for tourists and is easily accessible and fairly affordable.
- It's a buffet, so if you really like one of the dishes then ask for some more of that one
