The Cape Town Planetarium is in a beautiful old building just off Long Street in central Cape Town. It makes for an informative and cheap outing.
There is a standard children's show on weekends at 12:00 with new features showing throughout school holidays. The kids' shows are aimed at children between 5 and 12.
There are also more detailed shows for teenagers and adults:
- There is a standard show detailing the stars currently visible in Cape Town (changes each month) every Saturday and Sunday at 13:00. You will receive a free star map with this show to help put to use what you learn.
- There is a changing show (see the site for current shows) focusing on more specific subject matter available at 14:00 during the week, 20:00 on Tuesday evenings, and 14:30 on weekends.
Getting There
- The Planetarium is visible from Orange Street near the top of Long Street.
- It is accessible from Queen Victoria Street which is just off Orange
- If you are heading along Orange away from Kloof and Long Street take the first left (after the Shell Garage) into Queen Victoria
- You will see the planetarium directly ahead
