The Cape Town Planetarium is in a beautiful old building just off Long Street in central Cape Town. It makes for an informative and cheap outing.

There is a standard children's show on weekends at 12:00 with new features showing throughout school holidays. The kids' shows are aimed at children between 5 and 12.

There are also more detailed shows for teenagers and adults:

  • There is a standard show detailing the stars currently visible in Cape Town (changes each month) every Saturday and Sunday at 13:00. You will receive a free star map with this show to help put to use what you learn.
  • There is a changing show (see the site for current shows) focusing on more specific subject matter available at 14:00 during the week, 20:00 on Tuesday evenings, and 14:30 on weekends.
