The Clifton area between Sea Point and Camps Bay offers four beautiful and popular little beaches. Each is reached by descending the steep stairs from the road above and all are popular because they are protected from the frequent winds.

Each beach is bordered by large granite boulders but they are linked and visitors can walk from Clifton 1st to Clifton 4th easily at low tide. Because they are pretty much East facing sunsets are beautiful from the Clifton beaches.

The different beaches are rumored to cater for different personalities - for example 2nd beach is supposed to be most popular among students and 3rd most popular among the gay population. However, in summer the whole area becomes packed and finding parking and a beach spot can be tricky on any beach.

The Atlantic water is absolutely freezing with only the hottest and bravest spending any time in the water.

Tips
  • There are often vendors moving up and down the beach selling drinks, ice-cream and sometimes renting umbrellas (all at a premium of course).
