Woodstock Cave is a large but shallow cave (it's more of an overhand) half way up Devils Peak. The cave is formed by a long horizontal crack and is fairly large. The cave has very good views of the city, Lions Head, and Table Bay. It is also easily accessible which makes it a popular destination for hikers.
That said, it seems to be at least partially inhabited by homeless people which can be a little disconcerting. They seem shy and on most occasions clear out of the cave when they see hikers approaching. There is also unfortunately a fair amount of graffiti within the cave.
Tips
- During winter there is often a waterfall cascading over the front of the cave
Getting There
- The Woodstock Cave is accessible from the contour path or from Tafelberg Road directly
- To get to Tafelberg Road follow the signs for the Cable Station
- Continue along Tafelberg Road until cars are no long allowed and then walk along the road itself
- A little after the tarred section of the road ends (about 100 metres) there is a metal gate with stone pillars
- The hike up to the cave begins about 10 paces before that gate

Crazy cult people
I recently ran past the cave on the contour path and I heard some crazy chanting coming out of there. It sounded like there were a bunch of people in there and I saw a couple pacing up and down shouting their strange song.
There was also smoke coming out of the cave so these guys had obviously started a fire. Not much would have gotten me to head up there then!
Luckily there is plenty else to do and see on the mountain because it seems the Woodstock Cave isn't the best destination for most anymore.
