Foresters Arms in Newlands is far better known as Forries and is probably Newlands's most popular pub. It is a vibey place that is often packed to capacity when there are sporting events to watch. There is a large bar area and there are tables sprawled around the establishment.
On warmer summer days many people sit outside in the beer garden and there is a little play area for any children brought along. Because Forries is so close to the Newlands cricket and rugby stadiums it is often the destination after a game.
Although most patrons think of Forries as a pub there is a fairly large menu which extends beyond the baskets of chips regularly devoured with beers. Main courses go for between R45 and R65 and are of a high quality. On offer are things like burgers, chips, pies and on Sundays a carvery.
On Sunday's they have some jazz playing from 1pm till 4pm.
- On weekends Forries can get fairly busy so you may have to park a fair distance away - try to park legally as the traffic cops know about this
Foresters Arms is on Newlands Avenue which is accessed from the M3
- Get onto the M3 heading away from the city towards Muizenberg
- Take the Princess Anne off ramp down towards Claremont
- Take the first slip road to the right (there is a stop street)
- This is Newlands avenue
- Continue through the traffic lights until you see a BP garage on the left and Forries on the right

dissapointing carvery
Come for carvery, ran out of gravy, cheese sauce and it was cold. Very disappointing for a speciality and to come all this way!
Forries
They used to have Mitchells Beer but I understand that the owner fell out with the suppliers. We are a strong hiking group who thus no longer use them
