Noordhoek Beach
There is a long, white beach stretching 6km from the base of Chapmans Peak in Noordhoek to Kommetjie along the freezing Atlantic. Known alternately as Noordhoek Beach and Long Beach this is a popular spot for long walks. The water is generally too cold for all but the most determined swimmers but the beach is still popular on warm days.
There is a shipwreck a few kilometers down the beach which is a popular destination for walkers. It is also possible to organize a horse riding excursion onto the beach.
Dogs are allowed on the Noordhoek Beach and as such this is a popular spot for people walking their dogs.
After heavy rains or particularly high tides there is often a large body of water on the beach. In general this isn't a problem and can be easily skirted. In fact it is particularly popular with kids and dogs.
- It can get fairly windy on this beach - if it's a windy day you might want to consider another activity
- Noordhoek Beach can be accessed from Noordhoek where there is a parking area or from Kommetjie
- If you come over Chapmans Peak take the first right (Avondrust) in Noordhoek and follow the signs to the parking area
- If you come over Ou Kaapse Weg (from the M3) then you need to take the first right into Silvermine Road
- Take a right at the T-junction into Noordhoek Main Road
- Take a left into Avondrust (the last left before Chapmans Peak and after the Noordhoek Farm Village)
- Follow the signs to the beach parking area
