Nursery Ravine
R30 if you enter through Kirstenbosch
3 to 4 hours up and down
Nursery Ravine is one of the paths heading up the mountain from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. From the top corner of the gardens this route rises up the mountain over hundreds and hundreds of stairs. The path is very well maintained and these stairs are a real help when the path is wet and when coming down.
The path rises through a forested area and then climbs up a steep ravine to the top of the mountain. The path comes out at the Hutchinson Dam on top of the mountain. This is a steep climb with hundreds of stairs - leave yourself time and take plenty of water with.
When you enter the gardens you should walk up to the top corner. You will soon see signs for the contour path, Skeleton Gorge and Nursery Ravine. Follow this path through the forest and then out into the ravine. You will climb through some beautiful fynbos with a multitude proteas.
- Nursery Ravine is often used as the downward route following a climb up Skeleton Gorge
- Leave time to check out Hutchinson Dam at the top of this climb
